Position Overview

The Food Services Assistant reports to the Food Services Director and is responsible for food preparation in compliance with nutrition, health and safety laws/regulations.   This is a part time position with hours being 10:00AM – 2:00PM over the course of 180 school days.

Responsibilities

Food Preparation: Assisting with basic food preparation tasks such as chopping vegetables, making salads, and assembling simple dishes. Preparing ingredients for cooking, following recipes and instructions from chefs or supervisors. Ensuring that food items are properly stored, labeled, and rotated.

Customer Service: Serving food to customers in a courteous and efficient manner. Taking customer orders, ensuring accuracy and promptness. Handling cash registers, processing payments, and providing receipts. Addressing customer inquiries and resolving complaints or issues.

Sanitation and Cleanliness: Maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and dining areas. Washing dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment. Following sanitation and safety protocols to ensure a hygienic environment. Disposing of trash and ensuring waste areas are kept tidy.

Stock Management: Monitor inventory levels and inform supervisors when supplies need to be reordered. Restock food items, beverages, and other supplies as needed. Ensure storage areas are organized and food items are stored correctly to prevent spoilage.

Assist in Food Service Operations: Setting up and clearing tables, ensuring dining areas are ready for service. Assisting in the setup and teardown of special events or catering functions. Supporting kitchen staff and chefs as needed, performing tasks such as fetching ingredients or equipment.

Adhering to Health and Safety Regulations:  Following proper food handling procedures to prevent contamination. Wearing appropriate protective gear, such as gloves and aprons, as required. Staying updated with health and safety guidelines and practices.

Qualifications

  • Skills:
    • Basic Culinary Skills – Knowledge of basic food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment.
    • Customer Service – Ability to interact positively with customers, providing friendly and efficient service.
    • Attention to Detail – Ensuring accuracy in food orders and maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
    • Teamwork – Working effectively with other staff members to ensure smooth operations.
    • Time Management – Managing time efficiently, especially during busy service periods.
    • Communication – Clear and effective communication skills for interacting with customers and team members.
  • Physical Requirements
    • Ability to perform physically demanding work and stand for extended periods.
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
    • Ability to work in a kitchen environment with exposure to hot and cold temperatures.
