CAMPUS MINISTRY

Welcome to the heart of Benedictine High School’s mission: Faith & Service. Rooted in our commitment to nurturing young men of character, compassion, and purpose, this cornerstone of our educational philosophy invites students to explore the profound intersection of faith, service, and personal growth.

At Benedictine, we believe that faith is more than a set of beliefs; it’s a guiding light that illuminates our path and informs our actions. Grounded in the rich traditions of Catholicism we embrace diversity of thought and encourage open dialogue, fostering a community where students can explore their spiritual journey with curiosity, respect, and reverence.

Central to our ethos is the call to service, a fundamental tenet that lies at the core of our identity. Inspired by the teachings of St. Benedict, our students are empowered to make a tangible difference in the world, serving as compassionate leaders and agents of change in their communities and beyond.

Through a myriad of service opportunities, ranging from local outreach initiatives to global mission trips, students are encouraged to embody the values of empathy, generosity, and social responsibility. Whether they’re volunteering at a soup kitchen, tutoring underprivileged children, or participating in environmental stewardship projects, our boys learn the transformative power of selflessness and the joy of making a meaningful impact in the lives of others.

But service isn’t just about giving; it’s about receiving as well. As students engage in acts of service, they discover profound lessons about humility, gratitude, and the interconnectedness of humanity. These experiences not only deepen their understanding of the world but also shape their character, instilling in them a lifelong commitment to serving others and effecting positive change.

Guiding our students on this journey of faith and service are dedicated faculty and staff who serve as mentors, role models, and spiritual guides. With their unwavering support and wisdom, students are encouraged to explore their beliefs, ask challenging questions, and embark on a quest for meaning and purpose that transcends the boundaries of the classroom.

At Benedictine, the integration of faith and service isn’t just an extracurricular activity; it’s a way of life—a transformative journey that empowers young men to become compassionate leaders, ethical decision-makers, and global citizens committed to building a more just and equitable world.

Living with St. Benedict Retreat – Life has its many ups and downs.  Sometimes we don’t know where to turn for guidance and peace.  St. Benedict is the founder of western monasticism.  The Benedictine Order has been around for over 1500 years and His Rule continues to guide many faithful men and women today.  How can the spirit of Benedict’s life and Rule guide our lives today?  How can we come to a deeper appreciation of God in our lives and find greater peace?  You have seen a number of the monks around at school, what is the foundation of their lives?  Sign up for this retreat and find out the answer to these and other questions you may have.  Retreats will be on selected school days as listed above, from 8am to 6pm on the BHS campus.  Lunch and snacks are provided.  Cost: $10 for lunch and materials.

Monday, March 10, 2025 (8:00 am) – Thursday, March 13, 2025 (6:00 pm)

The Mountain of God Retreat – (formerly known as Kairos) takes place over the course of 4 days and focuses on our spiritual journey to encounter God.  Thematically, the retreat focuses on the steps that we need to take to move away from the distractions and barriers of daily life.  These are distractions that prevent us from developing a strong understanding of ourselves and others and building a relationship with God. The Mountain of God retreat includes a variety of activities and witnesses that inspire deeper spiritual reflection and provoke contemplation of who we really are and who Christ is in our lives.  The retreat is off-campus at the Loyola Retreat House in Clinton, Ohio, between Akron and Canton with transportation provided from and back to BHS.  Students will be responsible for bringing pillow(s) and blankets for themselves and following all Covid-19 protocols per the Retreat House staff and BHS moderators and student leaders. Rooms are private with common lavatory facilities.  Meals are part of the cost for the retreat and are prepared by the professional staff.  Cost: $125 over 4 days for meals, lodging and materials.

Thursday, February 13, 2025:  3:30pm to 9pm

Friday, February 14, 2025:  9:00am – 6:00pm

Students must participate in all sessions.

Lord of the Rings Retreat – The “Lord of the Rings” trilogy is one of the greatest literary works of the 20th century.  It is a masterful combination of storytelling and the power of symbolism in the struggle between good and evil.  However, many who encounter this work fail to understand the deep Christian spirituality of J.R.R. Tolkien that forms the foundation of understanding this work.  This retreat delves into the spiritual riches often overlooked by readers and provides insight into the power of Christian symbolism and spirituality that saves the world.  A must for any fans of this great work!

Cost: $30 for meals and materials.
