Benedictine High School Names Matt Wilson ’02 Head Football Coach
Cleveland, Ohio — Benedictine High School has announced Matt Wilson ’02 as the new Head Coach of the Bengals football program. A proud Benedictine alum, Wilson will lead his alma mater with a strong sense of purpose, gratitude, and commitment to the young men who wear the Columbia Blue and White.
Known for his energy, authenticity, and relationship-driven approach, Wilson has built his coaching career around developing players both on and off the field. His love for Benedictine and its tradition is matched only by his dedication to the student-athletes he coaches, emphasizing accountability, toughness, and pride in representing something bigger than themselves.
Wilson served as the special teams coordinator while also coaching the defensive line and tight ends for the last two seasons. In 2023, Wilson was the head freshman coach for the Bengals. From 2013-2015, he coached the defensive line at Benedictine and was an assistant coach on the 2014 DIV state football championship team. He began his coaching career in 2012 at St. Peter Chanel, assisting with the offensive and defensive lines.
“Benedictine shaped who I am as a man, and it’s an incredible honor to lead this program. This is about building something rooted in accountability, hard work, and pride in wearing the Columbia Blue and White. We will honor the tradition of Benedictine football while developing young men to be the best versions of themselves on and off the field.” Wilson said.
“Matt Wilson embodies what Benedictine football is about,” said John Carter, Athletic Director at Benedictine High School. “He understands our traditions, values relationships, and is deeply committed to developing young men the right way.”
Wilson is a Mayfield Heights resident and lives with his wife, Michele, and their children: Matthew Jr. ’27, Madeline, and Miley. He is the son of Patricia Schnell and Terry Wilson.
Benedictine High School looks forward to the continued growth of its football program under Coach Wilson’s leadership and is excited for the future of Bengals football.
